Teaching Chastity →
Last week, Elizabeth Smart spoke at a human trafficking forum about her 9 months as a kidnap and sexual assault victim. She said one reason she didn’t run Such an awesome segment from a local station here in SLC, Utah. Stick with it through Gale Ruzicka’s craziness, it gets good. It is great to have a feminist voice like Joanna Brooks in the LDS church. Subversive feminism fights on!

Donaldson Family Fundraiser →
Last week a woman was killed by her husband in a murder-suicide, leaving behind 4 children. Some friends of mine, who were friends of the woman who was murdered, are trying to raise funds for the funeral cost and to support the grandparents who are now caring for these children. Please give what you can.  In Utah alone there were 28 domestic violence related deaths from July 2010 to June 2011....

Women and the Economy: Reframing the Economic...
In the 2012 presidential election, women made up 54 percent of the electorate; 55 percent of those votes went to President Obama, compared to only 44 percent to Governor Romney. In total, President Obama was on the favorable end of an 18 point gender gap. Throughout the election cycle the economy was at the forefront of the debate. Women and the issues that impact us became the unexpected close...

This article/case may be very triggering for some. This case makes clear the power of rape culture; these young men sexually assault a young woman while she is unconscious, take pictures and videos of their crime, and brag about it on social media. Countless others witness and support their crimes. Yet there are still claims from law enforcement that the case is weak. Not to mention the barrage of...

After reading this week about the objections that director Spike Lee had about the new film “Django Unchained,” I was both curious and concerned.  I wanted to see the film myself in order to determine if Spike actually had a point in his critique.  I also hoped that Spike would explain himself a bit more, instead of making brief, even cryptic, remarks about the project on his Twitter feed.  I...
